Statement: I’ve always wanted to create a piece featuring birdhouses and a background that I created as a demonstration in one of my classes was the perfect setting. I had collaged scraps onto the batting which had a fusible web applied to it. I like to quilt my backgrounds first to give them a more cohesive look. I used free motion quilting with a zigzag stitch which suited the scrappy look. Tulle overlayed along the bottom created the value change for the ground. Carefree flowers were embroidered with ribbon for the final effect.

Materials/Techniques: Fused, collaged background, fused and machine appliqued houses, some hand dyed fabric, tulle shading, free motion machine quilting, ribbon embroidery.
